Only just seen the reply from 'Anonymus' dated 14th August 2007, in their words, 'A MERE FIREFIGHTER'. As a Watch Manager for many many years I can see where you're coming from as a fire fighter but don't treat my position as a dictatorship getting something for nothing. I am a MERE Watch Manager who has been crapped on from above since doing the Station Officers job for the wage of a Sub. The differentials between Firefighters, Crew Managers and Watch Managers are abysmal and have now rightly been addressed by giving us WM B rate. The rank to role and job sizing process has put the roles with responsibility and accountability into some sort of context with industry at long last. Do Firefighters deserve more? Of course they do, but so do Watch Managers. Ff Anonymus don't shoot us for wanting more!

Take a look at what happened yesterday with the Prison Officers - cut in conditions and one telephone call from the POA head office and they are out on the streets! Need to send a clear message to the FBU leadership on how the membership feel and what we are prepared to do about it.

What an insult to see in the latest NTK2 bulletin, that in the rank to role sizing, every officer from Watch manager upwards is going onto scale B, Quote; "IN RECOGNITION OF THE PROFESSIONALISM AND DEDICATION OF THOSE OFFICERS" ??!!
How are these same values recognised for the rest of us, actually doing the groundwork!- A PAY CUT!!
How are we mere firefighters expected to feel about this, in a time when we have had LSI removed, and have had to fight for a portion of this back, for which we have currently received £100!! having to prove our worthiness & competency all the way! and are still waiting for the CPD to be formalised!
This is a real kick in the teeth (censored*!!)
Once again this shows the low esteem & contempt we are held in by management! and widens the "Them & Us" divide.
Where is the extra finance suddenly being found to fund all these pay rises ( & back pay!!), as supposedly the brigade couldnt even afford to pay us £62.18 to bring us up to the nationally agreed CPD figure!??
I really cant believe what is happening to this job!!

Once again we witness the employers ripping off the employees. This is a disgraceful course of action by management. Shall we give just 85% effort this year and then back pay them the remaining 15%if we feel they have performed enough to earn it!

There comes a time when the membership needs to show these would be politicians that we are not prepared to stand for it anymore. The next step will be the pay rise. Are we going to be offered an under inflation pay CUT like the rest of the public sector? If we cannot stand our ground on CPD then what are we going to do when the 'great pay rise swindle' comes onto the table.

STICK TO YOUR ROLLMAPS!

You have no chance of a reply from any section or the top corridor! The firefighters that are actively involved in getting information on their impending retirement find it almost impossible to get a decision!

Why are Humberside Fire and Rescue Service dragging its heels over the implementation of job sharing within the operational duties of Fire fighters?
Job sharing already exists within the service, control and civilian personnel have the luxury of being able to work this system should they wish to apply. However after listening to several operational colleagues recently who are due to retire I feel that for some reason there is a darker reasoning to holding back on its implantation…that of a cheaper low cost fire fighter.

Please remember that when you retire you take your lump sum, plus you get your monthly retirement wage of around £700 per month for a full serving fire fighter.
Now with two fight fighters job sharing the service needs to provide a single wage bill of approximate £27000 for the both of them, however if the service continues to delay the job sharing they can save money by simply doing the following:

Continue with an existing retired fire fighter on a new extended contract the service has only to pay the individual up to his old pay.
The new contracted fire fighter would have been receiving their monthly pension of approximately £700 (except in the new contract you can’t with draw this figure because you are only allowed your lump sum ), followed by a top up of around £500 pounds per month?
I ask this, is a 48 hour shift pattern working days and nights, weekends including bank holidays (yep that includes Christmas or what ever your religious belief may be) worth a proportion of that £500 – maybe you have four shifts in that month?

So is this really the reason behind the slow process, cheap labour that is well below the national average wage?
Excuses that job sharing would not work due to the shift system, wrong – control already have this in place.
Training targets would not be reached, again wrong; we have a retained duty system that offers a first class service built on two hours training per week.

I know that all the above figures are an approximation, but please feel free to correct me especially if you work in the finance section or are from the top corridor – I look forward to hearing your reasons behind the delays and the failure to modernise certain sections of the service.
