Ian Murray - moving to a new FBU position

Wednesday, December 03rd, 2008

Humberside FBU Official Ian Murray is moving sideways to take up the role of Regional Secretary. Ian who currently is the Regional Chair and Humberside’s Assistant Brigade Secretary will officially take up the reigns at the start of the new year. Although moving into a position with a full time secondment, Ian will still be involved in Humberside’s FBU business on a daily basis.
Ian said earlier:
‘I’ve had a lot of calls asking me when i’m leaving Humberside Fire & Rescue Service but that isn’t exactly how it is. I’ve taken up a different role within the FBU that comes with a full time secondment. I’m still employed by Humberside Fire Authority and a member of HFRS it’s just i wont be operational whilst in this post. I’ll be very sad to come off riding pumps as i always said thats not what i wanted to do, but unfortunately with the amount of work and time required something had to give and if things dont work out i’ll be asking to come back pretty sharp. I’ll still be attending meetings within HFRS and turning up at Branch meetings to give the usual ear ache out to members. so dont get the flags out just yet!!!

 National Officer Election

At the close of the nomination stage yesterday for the vacant National Officers post three candidtaes had received nominations. The results were as follows:

  • Bro Sean Starbuck     (Region 4 EC member)    172 nominations
  • Bro Tam McFarlane    (Region 13 EC member)  162 nominations
  • Bro Dave Green         (Region6 EC member)     122 nominations

The election will now move forward to the ballot stage and when it is known which candidates have accepted their nominations and declared they will be standing in the election then this information will be promulgated to members.

Brigade Secretary Stands down

Ashley Oldfield the recently elected Brigade Secretary has regrettfully had to stand down from the position for personal reasons. Ashley will still be involved at Brigade Committee level of the FBU but made the honest decision that at this present time, with his circumstances as they are at the minute he could not give the level of committment that is required at Brigade Official level. The Brigade Committee thanked Ashley for his time in office and we’re sure when the time is right he will be back.

As an interim measure until the election can be run Pete Smith was appointed by the Brigade Committee as Humberside’s ‘Acting’ Brigade Secretary.

Congratulations go to Sean Starbuck who has been elected as Region 4 (Humberside and the 3 Yorkshire’s) Executive Council Member. Sean was elected with over 85 Branch nominations from across the Region and he sends his thanks out to all who have supported him in the election and over the years whilst a Humberside Official. On behalf of the Humberside Brigade Comittee and Humberside FBU members we send our best wishes and thanks to Sean for all that he has done for Humberside members over his terms of office. Sean will still have a very ‘hands on’ involvement with the day to day running of Humberside FBU and as we all know will still be a regular at Branch Meetings.
